“Wenham Police launch new program focusing on the business community”

The Wenham Police Department has launched a new program that focuses on crime prevention within the business community. Officer David Doyle will serve as the Business Liaison Officer. The Business Liaison Officer has the primary responsibility of being visible and the active law enforcement figure at businesses around town on crime prevention or any law-related issues.  Officer Doyle will work closely with the business owners and employees to solve problems within the business community.  The officer will also be the liason between the business community and this department.

The officer will conduct, as applicable, visits to businesses for purposes of establishing rapport and cooperation between the police and business community. The visits will stress crime prevention tips such as employees being reminded that they should immediately call 9-1-1 upon the occurrence of a crime and not to call managers, owners, wives, etc., prior to calling the police. The officer will also give advice on cash drops, building layout, etc. Site surveys on crime prevention and safety will also be conducted. The owner/employees of the business will be advised of the nature of the program but under no circumstances will they be offered or given implied special protection assurances. Lastly, the officer will conduct on-site visits to victimized establishments for the purpose of making recommendations for the prevention of crimes in the future. Chief Ken Walsh is extremely excited about this new program which is new to the area.
