The North East Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC)

The Wenham Police Department is a NEMLEC member agency. The North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (N.E.M.L.E.C.) began in the sixties when several local Police Chiefs began meeting informally to share information and discuss common problems. The original communities were Burlington, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, Wilmington, Winchester, and Woburn.NEMLEC consists of member police departments in over forty cities and towns in Essex County and Middlesex County.  Each participating department provides manpower that forms the nucleus of the Regional Response Team (RRT) and its specialized sister organization, the Special Weapons and Tactics unit (SWAT) along with specialized units investigating cyber crime, advanced accident reconstruction and a NEMLEC detective information sharing project. A large-scale endeavor of NEMLEC is the School Threat Assessment and Response System (STARS) that provides specialized resources to the Town in the event of violence-induced school emergencies. Wenham Officers participate in RRT, the Computer Crimes Unit, the Technology Committee, and Detective sharing. Visit the NEMLEC website to learn more about NEMLEC. www.nemlec.com
