The Town of Wenham TRIAD Council

What is a TRIAD?  A TRIAD is a partnership which involves Senior Citizens, Law Enforcement Agencies (Sheriff / Police / District Attorney) and Support / Protective Services (Councils on Aging / Elder Services / Clergy, etc.) who agree to work together. Their primary goals are to reduce the criminal victimization of older citizens and enhance the delivery of services to this population. TRIAD provides the opportunity for an exchange of information between law enforcement, support services and senior citizens. It focuses on reducing unwarranted fear of crime and improving the quality of life for seniors.
Why is TRIAD Necessary?  Older Americans comprise the most rapidly growing segment of the population. One in every eight Americans is already age 65 or older, a total of more than 33.6 million. Increased life expectancy is leading to new issues and problems for the criminal justice system as most communities experience a dramatic increase in the number of older persons. Calls for services, crimes, victims are all changing.
The mission statement of TRIAD is to develop and implement policies and programs to reduce criminal victimization, promote crime prevention, safety awareness and serve the particular needs of the senior community.  In addition, the Town of Wenham TRIAD Council will endeavor to design and support programs to improve the quality of life for senior citizens.

The Town of Wenham TRIAD Council, the Wenham Police Department, the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, along with the Wenham Town Selectman agree to develop, coordinate and implement their response to crimes against elders.

To ensure a safe community environment this cooperative effort between The Town of  Wenham TRIAD Council, the Police Department, the Sheriff’s Department, District Attorney’s Office and the Wenham Town Selection will support programs designed to provide:

Crime prevention for seniors
Promoting a safe community environment for seniors
Victim/witness services
Prosecution of perpetrators of crimes against the seniors

The Town of Wenham TRIAD Council meets the third Monday of every month.  We will vary our meeting locations as to make it easier for the senior community to attend.  Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 19th  at Enon Village Community Room.  We will have a brief meeting beginning at 9:30.  Beginning at 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, the TRIAD Council will offer free to Wenham seniors the File of Life.  The File of Life is a system of keeping all your medical and emergency contact information in one place.  The File of Life is a magnetic plastic folder that attaches to your refrigerator.  In an emergency, the first response team will have all the needed information readily available.  In addition to emergency situations, the File of Life can also be carried with you to doctor appointments.  Should your doctor change a medicine, change the dosage, or give you a new medicine, the information can be recorded right away.

Any questions regarding TRIAD or the File of Life, please do not hesitate to call the Wenham Council on Aging Director, Trudy Reid at 978-468-5529.
